Have A Heart

Have a heart!  If someone ‘has a heart’, they are kind and sympathetic. If you say, 'Have a heart' to someone, you are asking them to be understanding and sympathetic. If someone has a heart that is beating too fast and hard, one might say, ‘slow down, don’t move so fast.’   So…how does one slow down the fast beating heart? The medical term for a fast beating heart is Heart Palpitations.   It can be caused by anxiety, fear, a rich meal full of salt and fat, too much caffeine or chocolate and even too much sugar.   It seems that life can cause heart palpitations.   So, what is a heart patient to do? We can’t avoid life…well, we can…but I choose not to take that direction.   Let’s rephrase the question.   How can a heart patient avoid or limit heart palpitations in this life?   Can a heart patient live a rich, full, and meaningful life with the threat of heart palpitations looming over the next day? One might wonder, what br...

Running Free

Running free, as in the movie, Born Free crosses everyone's mind at some point. The desire to "run around freely" with no encumbrances has surely crossed the mind of every child....and some adults that I know. We watched a small boy out of our window playing on the sidewalk with coat, long pants, backpack and flip flops. Mom walked inside for a few moments; sensing freedom, off came the backpack, coat and pants, and suddenly this heavy ladened child was completely free in his mind. He began moving around happily, running for the joy of running and completely happy in his pant-less state. Easter is all about freedom: freedom from my sin, freedom in the Salvation that Jesus completed for me. I am free to run happily and joyfully in my Savior's love. Next time you see a child strip down and run happily, think of the freedom that Jesus came to give You!

The Nights Are Packed

The days are rolling by.   This is the 9 th day of imposed isolation due to the Corona Virus.   Each day holds excitement and brings new challenges.   Waking up after a night of Corona dreams is welcomed and as the reality of the new day sinks in, this Grandpa wonders what new dreams are on the schedule? Nightly dreams have been a way of life for years.  ·          Dreams of family - living and passed on, ·          Dreams of animals – dogs, cats, rhinoceros, koalas, ·          Dreams of food ·          Dreams of helicopters – viewing and piloting ·          Dreams of jogging or even running The dream list is as endless as the night is long, or in some cases, short.  I have always been a dreamer, an active dreamer, much to the dismay of Grandma...

Walking The Dog

Walking is for exercise; however, it can be fun and educational.           On some days walking is memorable.   Perhaps walking could even be curiously mysterious?                                                                                             Today, my walk was Freaky! The walk began with the usual excitement, down the stairs, down the hill and right back up the hill.   It continued with a stroll beside the pool and tennis courts then the long climb up the hill…. At this point, my walk….well it was completely different…off the scale….I saw….. A Great Dane was walking an older man.   Yes, the dog was walking the man!    Let’s start with the dog, who was walking upright, wea...

Six Feet! Six Feet!

The days are just packed!   Don’t you feel that way?   Lots to do and plenty of time to do…whatever? The days have been counted by how many walks I have taken and in addition today, how many steps.   I use my cell phone app to measure distance, steps, and actually follow my walking path.   Isn’t that amazing? You can tell by the preceding words just how needy and perhaps bored I am!   Mornings start with coffee, Bible reading – not boring!   Following that is breakfast, sitting a few minutes then a long walk.    As a recovering heart patient, the walk is mandatory.   Walking settles me, gives a new perspective, and allows me to see nature and people. Most folks answer my greeting, and some will even stop and talk from a distance.   One lady walking her 2 little dogs moved over and kept repeating, “Six feet!   Six feet!”   So…I moved on and gave her the desired space . This incident brings me to the poi...

Were They Really That Young? Am I Really That Old?

Image
These wonderful, precious, lovely children are OUR Grandchildren.   The picture was taken in March of 2015 as our extended family gathered for my Mother’s funeral.    A sad time was enlivened with joys of grandchildren running all through the house, parents and grandparents chasing them, and lots of visiting and reacquainting happening.    Seeing my Mother’s body in the casket was hard, however when one of the Grandchildren asked to see Great Grandmommy, this Grandpa picked up the little one and we talked about why she was lying in the casket.    A sad time brought smiles as the little one asked: why is she still asleep? why doesn’t she get up? Is she really in Heaven? After our brief conversation, the little one saw something else of interest and hurried off to play, and life goes on. We laughed and cried, followed children, cooked out on the grill, rode in the paddleboat, played on the playground and generally had ...
