Have A Heart

Have a heart!  If someone ‘has a heart’, they are kind and sympathetic. If you say, 'Have a heart' to someone, you are asking them to be understanding and sympathetic.

If someone has a heart that is beating too fast and hard, one might say, ‘slow down, don’t move so fast.’  So…how does one slow down the fast beating heart?

The medical term for a fast beating heart is Heart Palpitations.  It can be caused by anxiety, fear, a rich meal full of salt and fat, too much caffeine or chocolate and even too much sugar.  It seems that life can cause heart palpitations.  So, what is a heart patient to do?

We can’t avoid life…well, we can…but I choose not to take that direction.  Let’s rephrase the question.  How can a heart patient avoid or limit heart palpitations in this life?  Can a heart patient live a rich, full, and meaningful life with the threat of heart palpitations looming over the next day?

One might wonder, what brought on these thoughts?  Why are you even writing about this subject?   OK, here goes…

Yesterday afternoon, after a 2.5 mile walk, and following a shower, my heart began beating hard!  Really hard.  I timed 125 beats per minute, but the issue was the strength of the beating.  It was hard and very tiring.  The next event was cold sweats.  If I am exercising, sweating is to be expected.  When one is sitting, should the body sweat?  Actually, this is part of the heart palpitations issue, and I had it!

How does one recover from an event of this magnitude?  Time!  It just takes time.  In my case, 2 ½ hours.  Did my heart slow down?  Yes, it did.  How about cold sweats?  Yes, that dried up.  Am I tired?  Yes, Very Tired!  What will I do now?

A note was sent to my heart Doctor, I am home resting, and also am seriously re-evaluating my diet and eating habits.

Is there anything else that can be done?

I will continue to live my life.  I will continue to enjoy writing each day.  I will continue life with my wife, children and grandchildren, and most important, I will listen for God’s leadership as I daily seek Him through prayer and Bible Study.

Have a heart!  Yes, and I want to continue that tradition for many years to come.
