The Walk
Walk down the path, go ahead feet, walk! Wait....I got here in the wrong end of a car....maybe I can leave behind the steering wheel? Run back to the car...hurry!
Caleb stood next to the driver's door, afraid to touch the car. The day already had brought more than his fair share of surprises and perhaps touching the car would.....forget it, just open the door and get in...but where would I go? Just follow the road! OK, I'll drive the Caddy....
Caleb opened the door and sat in the seat, reached for the keys...uh oh....
The keys were not in the ignition and Caleb realized that he would be walking. He pulled himself out of the car for the second time. The sun was still shining and the breeze was gently blowing but Caleb felt a chill. The nightmares were catching up with him. Remembering the voice calling to him....YES, calling his name, Caleb! The rustling leaves and the voice...again.....
Suddenly the woods seemed frightening.
Caleb finally turned and began walking down the road toward....what?
Where can I go? I have neither food nor water. It's dry and the sun feels warm, now. I'll bet I can go another hour without water.
Caleb walked down the road listening to the animal sounds, birds singing and almost died of fright when a rabbit hopped across the road. If he wasn't beginning to feel hungry it might be a good day for a walk. Walk....walk....walk....don't think. Why was I in a motel room? Who were the 2 thugs that abducted me? Where am I?
Caleb walked for over an hour listening to nature, dwelling on his helpless situation, still with no memory of where he came from. All of a sudden, the smell of smoke, someone had a fire....where was it? Stop....sniff the air.....wind blowing.....where is the smoke coming from? Turn....face the wind.....now follow your nose.
Caleb turned toward the wind and took off into the woods. He found the path to be no path at all. The undergrowth was thick with thorns and walking was slow. Caleb kept pushing through, kicking debris out of his way, pushing toward the ever stronger smelling smoke. Suddenly, he walked into a clearing and saw a cabin.
