This story is unfolding to me as I share it with you. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it. Remember, this is a work in progress. I would appreciate your feedback. Thanks for reading my blog. Ken
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The cabin was dark and the air heavy. Caleb struggled to emerge from his long sleep. Or was it sleep?
"Why am I here?" he wondered. His head moved slowly as he tried to pierce the darkness with tired eyes.
The voice spoke, "Why are you here? Did you follow me?"
Then silence....oppressive silence. Questions. No answers. Waiting. Silence.
Caleb tried to move and quickly realized that he was tightly bound. His head was free to move, however there was nothing to see in this pitch black....what was it? Room?
The voice spoke again, this time more agitated, "Who are you?"
Caleb spoke, "My name is Caleb,Who are YOU?"
"I am......, I am.......myself," was the message from the voice.
Suddenly, a light appeared as a door seemed to open, then shut. The light disappeared, and unknown to Caleb, he was alone.
Silence, darkness, so alone.
Caleb's ropes fell off and slowly pulling himself up and feeling the floor with his bare feet, Caleb for the first time experienced......relief. The floor under his bare feet felt cool and dry. Sliding his feet back and forth gave Caleb a feeling of freedom. For the first time in what seemed forever, he was free to move about.
Caleb's hands slid over the surface of his recent bed of captivity feeling a thin sheet. The sheet felt warm suggesting he had been asleep for quite some time. Continuing his exploration, Caleb moved his hands to the edge of the bed and felt a wall.
Suddenly, the room was ablaze with light from a single bulb directly ahead of him. No, the light was not from a natural source but from someone or something standing in an open door on the far side of the room. Caleb immediately shielded his eyes with hands that could not possibly block all of the light emanating from a figure of light. The figure of a man moved slowly toward Caleb as he fought for control of his senses, trying to focus his eyes and still partially blinded by the bright figure.
A voice spoke, "We are ready for you, now."
"Ready?" Caleb thought. "Ready for what? Why am I here?"
"I am Reuben," the voice answered, "and we have awaited your arrival for many years. You are most welcome"
Caleb's mind was reeling with questions pouring through his mind like a torrent. As he sorted through the events of the past days, Caleb realized that he had no idea where he was nor why he had been moved about so roughly. In fact, he had little memory beyond the past few days.
"Why?" Caleb asked?
"All in good time." Reuben answered gently
