“Sometimes, when people get what they want, they realize how limited their goals were.” While flying, I read this in the Delta SKY Magazine and have been mulling it over in my mind ever since. Have I settled for second best when the VERY BEST was available with a little more effort? Have I settled for what floats down the river with no thought of paddling upstream? Am I willing to settle for a rocking chair, when a “James Bond Jetpack” is available?
By this time you are probably wondering, “What has gotten into Ken?” And yes, you probably should wonder. My 60th birthday is Sunday, August 1 and I wonder, have I settled for second best?
One of the characters in the original series, Star Trek, said, “After a time, you may find that having is not so pleasing a thing, after all, as wanting. It is not logical, but it is often true.” – Spock in Amok Time.
Wanting and Having – A circle that we all find ourselves traveling. I see it and I want it. Because I want it, I must have it.
In his internet article, Wanting vs. Having, Angelo Campione says, “Wanting implies “NOT having” and having implies “no need for wanting”. Both are a state of “being” and as long as you remain in that state of “wanting”, life accepts this “wanting” state as your true desire and so continues to have your circumstances reflect that, i.e. still wanting! By knowing this, if you truly want to see a change in your circumstances, you need to change your focus so that you “feel” that you already “have” what you want. Through that feeling (which is usually a feeling of joy, abundance and freedom), life will begin to reflect that in the world.” Read more: http://www.articlesbase.com/advice-articles/wanting-vs-having-625895.html#ixzz0ucVbxtqY Angelo Campione
So where do we go from this point. Jesus made a good point when He said, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it. What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit his very self?” Luke 9:23-25 (NIV)
Interesting concepts and ideas from different generations, yet, each saying much the same.
What do I really want? Is it a worthy goal? Am I setting my sights too low? Should I set my sights higher? Will actually attaining the goal really satisfy me? Am I wanting while not realizing what good things I actually have now? And finally…does Jesus offer a better way? Can I give myself to another goal that will bring everlasting satisfaction?
The answer to the last questions is, YES, Jesus does offer a better way and an everlasting promise (goal) fulfilled. Set your sights on Jesus because having or receiving HIM is completely satisfying.

Such wisdom from one who has grown through adversity and come out the other side with gentleness and grace. Since I knew you "back when," I can say of a truth that you have decidedly taken the path less traveled. And look what a difference it has made.
